Sleep characteristics for 0 to 3 months babies

Sleep characteristics for 0 to 3 months babies

Baby sleeping

From birth until three months, babies sleep around 14 to 17 hours per day.

Newborns usually wake every two or three hours.

The baby spends a long time in REM(rapid eye movement) sleep.

REM sleep is essential for the brain.

As the baby grows, the REM sleep cycle decreases and sleeps deeper.

1. Learn a Newborn's Cycle

Take note of what your baby's behavior when starts to get tired.

You may rub eyes, pull ears, have no power, or have dark circles under eyes can all be -cues it's time for a sleep.

If you find a signal that the baby wants to sleep, place it on the bed or on the day the baby sleeps.

2. Start Making a Routine

After about two weeks of age, you can start teaching them to difference between day and night.

While the baby is awake during the day,

  • Please play with a lot of baby.
  • Talk to your baby and sing a song.
  • Please brighten the house and baby room.
  • Don't deliberately block the living noise.

At night,

  • Please make the atmosphere calm and quiet.
  • Repeat this process every night to introduce consistency in the infant's sleep.
